Meet the Board
AHS is an all-volunteer organization operating since 1977. The officers and board members are instrumental in providing guidance and participation in carrying out the mission of AHS. )
Tish is our highly-capable leader who has been with Alternative Humane Society for almost 9 years and acts as Board President of AHS. In addition to motivating volunteers and making things run smoothly, Tish does intake (networking and communicating to take in relinquished pets and pets in shelters).
The breed that is special to Tish’s heart is Great Danes, and she also volunteers for—and sits on the board of directors of—Dane Outreach. Additionally, she is the Great Dane Breed Rep for Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue.
Tish has had many pets over the years including 3 cats, a lab mix, a Dalmatian, a Lab/Vizsla mix, 5 Great Danes, and currently has two rescue dogs: Kirby, an AHS Lab/Border Collie/Pit mix, and Cleo, a Great Dane mix who was rescued from California.

Suzanne Mero is a valued member of AHS. She commits lots of time and energy to helping the organization run smoothly and assisting animals in need. Suzanne grew up around Great Danes and still loves the breed.

Phil is a local dog walker/trainer and veterinary technician student at Bellingham Technical College. He is an East Coast native, having moved to the West Coast in 2005, and has been working exclusively with dogs for the last 2 years. An outdoors enthusiast (especially skiing), he began volunteering with
AHS in the fall of 2017 and joined the board the following spring. He has brought with him his experience as a nursing professional, a high school teacher, and a world traveler (14 countries!) to try and make a difference in the lives of the human and animal community in Whatcom County and the surrounding areas. Phil helps AHS with foster support, social media promotion, and other volunteer board member responsibilities.
